The University of Aveiro (UA) is a public foundation under private law whose mission is to contribute to and develop graduate and postgraduate education and training, as well as to create, share and apply knowledge, involving the whole community through teaching, research and cooperation with the surrounding environment, in order to make a significant difference to individuals and society.

The UA is made up of organisational units within the university sub-system (16 departments) and the polytechnic sub-system (four schools), which include the teachers responsible for teaching their courses. An integral part of the university’s structure are a set of units dedicated to various research activities, and within the framework of the third university mission (cooperation with society), there are interface structures that establish links with the both the local region and society as a whole.

Founded in 1973, The University of Aveiro quickly became one of the most dynamic and innovative universities in the country. With around 15,000 students, the UA soon assumed a relevant role in the country’s university panorama, placing itself at the forefront in terms of the quality of its infrastructures, the quality of its research and the excellence of its faculty. The University of Aveiro  is a privileged partner of companies and other national and international entities, with which it collaborates in various projects and programmes and to which it provides important services, and is therefore a research space where innovative products and solutions are developed, contributing to the advancement of science and technology.
