RESTORE4Cs will be showcased at the upcoming 15th Meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (COP15), to be held from 23–31 July 2025 in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. The Horizon Europe-funded project will take part in a high-profile side event focused on building skills and knowledge to address climate change through wetland-based solutions.
The session, titled “Overseas dialogue between the Caribbean, Europe and the Mediterranean – Building skills and knowledge to address climate change through wetland-based solutions,” will take place on 30 July at 13:30 in the Kazuma Room, and is led by MedWet, in collaboration with IUCN ORMACC and the Mediterranean Biodiversity Consortium.
Linked to Resolution XIV.17 on the role of wetlands in climate mitigation and adaptation, the event will explore the vital role that wetland ecosystems play in combating climate change, from carbon storage and greenhouse gas reduction to flood prevention and biodiversity conservation.
RESTORE4Cs will be presented as one of three regional case studies that demonstrate how international initiatives are empowering local and regional actors to restore wetlands through targeted training, shared monitoring tools, and collaborative governance. The project’s contributions to developing assessment methodologies, establishing Communities of Practice, and informing policy decisions will be a key focus.
The session will include:
- Wetlands as Nature-based Solutions for climate action
- Building skills and knowledge: Trainings, monitoring and assessment tools and Communities of Practice
- Breaking barriers: Policy, governance and tools for decision-making
- Interactive Q&A with the audience
The event will be moderated by RESTORE4Cs’ Santiago Suarez (MedWet) and will feature expert insights from Melesha Gunning-Bahnhan (IUCN), RESTORE4Cs’ Anis Guelmami (Tour du Valat), and Marianne Courouble (Mediterranean Biodiversity Consortium).
