The University of Valencia Launches Rosseta UV Lab at Marjal dels Moros: A Living Lab Rooted in RESTORE4Cs Innovations

The University of Valencia (UV) has officially launched Rosseta UV Lab, a pioneering Social and Environmental Innovation Laboratory established at the Marjal dels Moros, the Valencian Wetlands Case Pilot of RESTORE4Cs. The initiative has also benefited from synergies with the Soteria and Wetlands4Change projects and enjoys institutional support from the Centre for Environmental Education of the Valencian Community (CEACV), the Generalitat Valenciana, and the City Council of Sagunt.

Presented as part of the initiatives on the occasion of World Environment Day, the Rosseta UV Lab embodies the quadruple helix model of open innovation, bringing together academia, public administration, business, and civil society. It aims to serve as a dynamic platform for co-creation, citizen science, interdisciplinary research, and environmental governance.

The establishment of Rosseta UV Lab is directly informed by the research and engagement activities developed under RESTORE4Cs, where Marjal dels Moros functions as a pilot ecosystem in the city of Sagunt (Valencia, Spain). The findings and stakeholder interactions generated through RESTORE4Cs were crucial to shaping this new initiative and its role in promoting ecosystem restoration, climate resilience, and biodiversity conservation.

The lab was officially introduced by María Dolores Pitarch (Delegate of the Rector of the UV), Dario Moreno (Mayor of Sagunt), Antonio Camacho (Professor of Ecology, UV), Maria Josep Picó (Lecturer of Journalism, UV), and Cristina Vicent (Deputy Director General of Climate Change and Environmental Education, Generalitat Valenciana).

Promoted by the Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication and the Cavanilles Institute of Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biology, and supported by the Vice-Rectorate of Culture and Society, Rosseta UV Lab is set to become a regional and international reference point in sustainability, environmental communication, and participatory science.

The mission of Rosseta UV Lab is clear: to foster inclusive dialogue and collaboration across sectors and to drive climate action, biodiversity restoration, and citizen engagement in environmental decision-making, leveraging the University’s commitment to social responsibility and knowledge transfer.
