Kicking off the series, Session 1 is a special extended edition featuring the Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS) European Chapter, highlighting international perspectives and opportunities for collaboration across the wetland science community. Unlike future webinars in the series, which will last 45 minutes, this session will run for a full 1 hour to accommodate this valuable contribution.

🎙️ Featured Speakers:

  • Miguel Cabrera-Brufau (University of Barcelona) – RESTORE4Cs
“Does Coastal Wetland Restoration Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions? Insights from Six Case Pilots of RESTORE4Cs”
  • Liang Chen (University of Eastern Finland) – REWET
“Greenhouse gases dynamics in ylpässuo peatland after restoration, Finland”
  • Columba Martinez & Luca Marazzi – Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS) European Chapter
“SWS Europe: Connecting Science and Education to Empower Wetland Professionals Across Europe”

🎤 Moderator:

Madeira Scauri (LifeWatch ERIC) – RESTORE4Cs

Each session in the Wetlands in Action series will feature concise, high-impact presentations followed by an open Q&A, fostering cross-sector dialogue and knowledge exchange among scientists, policymakers, restoration practitioners, and other stakeholders.

Running from November 2025 to April 2026, the series showcases the collaborative strength of four Horizon Europe projects, each contributing unique methodologies and case studies that drive evidence-based restoration and resilience strategies for European wetlands. The inclusion of the SWS European Chapter further extends the reach and relevance of the series, offering insights into global wetland science networks and educational opportunities.

🎯 Why attend?

  • Explore how wetland restoration affects greenhouse gas dynamics and climate outcomes.
  • Learn from case studies across Europe’s diverse wetland ecosystems.
  • Gain access to a global network of wetland professionals through SWS.
  • Be part of shaping the future of wetland science and restoration policy.
