The RESTORE4Cs project is pleased to announce an upcoming online workshop on “Tools and Indicators for Coastal Wetland Restoration to Promote Climate Resilience in Europe,” scheduled for 19 February 2025 from 10:00 to 13:00 CET. This workshop will present and discuss the critical role of coastal wetland restoration and respective monitoring systems in enhancing climate resilience, supporting biodiversity, and meeting the targets set out in the EU Nature Restoration Law and other EU climate and biodiversity policies.
Coastal wetlands are vital ecosystems that contribute to climate mitigation, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable coastal management. As Europe faces the dual challenges of climate change and habitat degradation, the restoration of these wetlands offers significant opportunities to meet EU policy goals. However, there is a pressing need for robust monitoring frameworks and tools that can assess and quantify the ecological health, resilience, and contributions of coastal wetlands to climate, biodiversity, and cross-sectoral policy targets.
This workshop will bring together key stakeholders, including policymakers, technical experts, scientists, and national-level authorities, to discuss the development of indicators and tools that can effectively measure progress towards these critical policy targets.
Key Topics to be Explored:
- Indicators for Coastal Wetland Restoration: Explore the indicators that can track progress towards the EU’s climate and biodiversity targets, with a particular focus on the newly adopted EU Nature Restoration Law.
- Wetland-Related Targets and EU Policy Implementation: Discuss the integration of wetland restoration into EU-wide environmental and climate policies.
- Enhancing Wetland Monitoring: Understand the current actions and future steps to improve wetland assessment and monitoring in the EU.
This workshop provides a unique platform for dialogue between policymakers, scientists, and experts, offering a collaborative space to shape the future of coastal wetland restoration in Europe and enhance climate resilience across the continent.
