RESTORE4Cs Celebrates Its 7th and Final General Assembly in Málaga, Spain
The RESTORE4Cs consortium gathered for its 7th and final General Assembly at the premises of ETC-UMA in Málaga, marking a key milestone as the project approaches its conclusion in December 2025. The meeting took place immediately after the successful RESTORE4Cs Autumn School 2025, held from 3 to 6 November, where several project partners acted as trainers for an international audience of researchers, practitioners and policy makers.
RESTORE4Cs extends a warm thank you to ETC-UMA for hosting the consortium and supporting both the Autumn School and the General Assembly.
While Autumn School trainers were present in Málaga, the rest of the consortium members joined the General Assembly online. Once the School concluded, the partners transitioned to the project’s final joint discussions, beginning on the afternoon of 6 November.
Day 1 Highlights – 6 November
The assembly opened with welcoming remarks from Natalia García Casares, Vice-Chancellor for Research Institutes, setting the tone for a productive final gathering.
This was followed by a WP9 session led by RESTORE4Cs Coordinator Ana Lillebø | University of Aveiro, offering an overview of the informal mid-term evaluation, the status of ongoing activities, and progress toward Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
Next, WP1 leader Eleftheria Kampa | Ecologic Institute presented the plan for completing the remaining RESTORE4Cs Policy Briefs, which will synthesise the project’s insights into actionable guidance for European policy makers.
The first day concluded with a WP4 session focused on planning the final scientific publications that will showcase RESTORE4Cs results and methodologies.
Day 2 Highlights – 7 November
The second day began with updates from WP6, presented by Christoph Schröder | ETC-UMA, on the upscaling catalogue, wetland condition assessment, and restoration potential mapping: central outputs for improving climate-smart wetland restoration strategies.
Following this, WP7 leader Anis Guelmami | Tour du Valat provided updates on the RESTORE4Cs data repository, online platform and decision support system, essential tools for ensuring the long-term usability of the project’s knowledge and datasets.
The assembly continued with a WP8 communication and dissemination session delivered by Madeira Scauri | LifeWatch ERIC, covering outreach achievements, the Autumn School results, joint activities with Sister Projects ALFAwetlands, REWET and WET HORIZONS, and plans for the project’s final events, including the premiere of the RESTORE4Cs Documentary Series at the Water Resilience Forum on 8 December 2025.
Next, WP2’s Santiago Suárez | MedWet outlined upcoming steps for the ECoP (European Community of Practice) and the organisation of the Case Pilot final events.
In the afternoon, WP3’s Carmela Marangi | CNR led a dedicated session on the RESTORE4Cs Integrative Assessment Framework, a core scientific outcome of the project.
The meeting concluded with a final wrap-up session to coordinate the last steps of all Work Packages and ensure successful completion of the project by the end of December. With momentum high, partners are now preparing for one final push leading to:
- RESTORE4Cs presence at the Water Resilience Forum (European Commission – 8 December 2025)
- The RESTORE4Cs Final Event in Brussels (9 December 2025)
RESTORE4Cs celebrates the dedication of all consortium members over the past years and looks forward to sharing its key results with the European scientific, policy and restoration communities during its final events.
